Malela Jeev Sanjeevani

Malela Jeev (મળેલા જીવ) by Pannalal Patel is one of the most celebrated novels in Gujarati literature. First published in 1941, this classic Gujarati novel tells the moving story of Kanji and Jivi, two young people whose love is challenged by social customs, caste differences and circumstances beyond their control.

The story begins when Kanji and Jivi meet at a Janmashtami fair and gradually fall in love. Their relationship, however, faces serious social barriers, leading the narrative through love, sacrifice, separation, emotional conflict and human relationships.

Written by renowned Gujarati author Pannalal Patel, Malela Jeev is widely regarded as one of his major literary works. The novel has also been translated into several languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Kannada and English.

The work was originally written after Jhaverchand Meghani encouraged Pannalal Patel to create a story for Phulchhab. It was first serialized and later published in book form. Sanjeevani Publication, Ahmedabad, continues to be associated with the Gujarati edition.
